Every single day more than three billion litres of perfectly good drinking water is wasted in the UK. That’s enough water to hydrate the entire population of Africa.
UK receives a large amount of rainfall, however there are limited natural or man made methods for water storage. This means that there is a relatively small volume of water available per person in the UK. The demand for water is growing at a steady rate of 1% per year.
Every citizen of the UK uses an average of 150 litres of water per day. Industries and Commerce consume about 1300 million cubic metres of water per year.
With the threat of Climate Change, longer and drier summers, and with a rising population, it is essential that we start thinking harder about reducing our water wastage. Our rivers and groundwater are already being rapidly depleted.
